Bad News:
Friend of mine was driving his 1965 442 to Seattle when his 400 engine blew in WA. state. So he goes over to the closest house and asks to use the phone. While he's waiting for the tow truck, he starts up a conversation with the farmer that lives there and the farmers says. "I've got an old engine you can buy if that's what you need."
Good News:
My friend asks what kind of engine. The farmer says "Oldsmobile, just like your car." So my friend asks if he can see it. He looks it over. Yep, it's an Olds engine alright. What's this? He asks the farmers what he wants for it. The guy says "It's taking up space so you can have it for $200 Turns out it's a 1968 W30 engine with the "D" heads .
So my friend gets the car and engine across the border and will take out the '65 400 and replace it with the 68 W30. He will fix up the 65 later. Now, he says that he wants to get 600 HP out of the W30 and so will put on aluminum heads and rebuild the whole thing.
I asked, "What are you doing with the heads". "I don't know." he says. So I said "Jim, you paid $200 US for the engine, I'll give you $200 CAD for the heads. The dollars are almost at par so exchange = $12:rolleyes: . "Let me think about it" he says.
That could be really good news for me if he says OK. "D" heads are pretty rare. Maybe I'd sell them, or maybe I'd rebuild them and change out the "C" heads on my car. Have to wait and see. :)
