Good day today found and purchased a 76 442 at an auction today know little about it will bring it home tomorrow lots of toys as far as I can see. I do not have a title and it has not ran for several years. I am sure parts will be for sale soon. It appears the entire front clip is good the waterfall grills have small breaks on the outside edge but I believe they can be repaired. I'll keep posted.

That was on my mind today. There was nearly 100 cars sold and I assure you I looked at every GM intermediate for that trim. Sad to say it was a no go on all.

How many of those were 73-77 Cutlasses?

I believe there were 5 to 6 including a second 76 442 that was the second car sold, I arrived as the third was being auctioned. (Bummer). the others were 77's. They also sold a 69 conv, and a 70 GTO. Interesting day wish I had deeper pockets!

Awsome find man, I just sold a 76 I was gonna use for parts, but I couldn't bring myself to parting it out. Finding a 76 455 car is like me finding stainless 1/4 window trim on a 73 Lemans for free on friday morning. Yup all I need now is a header emblem. Moral of the story never stop looking.

If this is a one of 143 the part out thing is being put on hold. My wife will have a fit I promised this would be a fast move through. I am a bit dumbfounded I usually don't fall into a deal like this. Pure dumb luck I couldn't even get the hood open at the auction.

To update, spent time yesterday decoding (see where's the engine code post) man them numbers are small! The engine,Trans, and carb all match. I can comfortabally say I have a 76 442 455. The body is rough I am still analizing what will need done. The car has been sitting a long time and I already anticipate engine work. Believe it or not the build sheet was in the owners manual in the glove box. The car is Dark blue with white stripe, will post some pictures soon.

Wow, cool car when it was new. Built in Arlington and customer ordered. 455 and spare tire delete. Crazy. Hope you get some pictures up soon and I hope the car is salvagable. 1 of 143. Gotta be rare, and probably one of one with the spare tire delete.

On the top of the second row, i think it has B82 or something? Emblem delete? What is that? What emblems were deleted? That build sheet is in great shape. Good luck with that car!

The Cutlass and S emblems are deleted with the 442. My build sheet says the same thing.

Now I see what you mean. Come to think of it, that's the only one I've seen with the emblems too. I believe I have the steering wheel of that car in my possession. (Gary, is that the wheel?) Back when I just bought my 73, Scott also had a red and white 77 442 for sale. I should have bought that too when I had the chance.

Hey Mitchell, Thanks for asking. I have moved the car inside and have started to aquire parts. The title has been a bear to obtain and I am still fighting that battle. I am tired of messing with the county here and have contacted an attorney to handle it. That stinks because it is more money out that could be going into the car. I am going to take the car to work soon and give the entire car a powerwash so at least I can see what I have to work with.

Hello Rene, good luck on the sale of the car. Since we are family here, care to share the reserve with us? Maybe you can find a home with one of the clan.

Sorry... didn't see these posts until now. Only took me a few months!

Anyway, I'll solve the mystery... `76-`77 442's didn't come with the Cutlass S emblems. My brother liked the emblems so he put them on his car where they would be normally be on a Cutlass S.

For those of you that don't know... my brother's 442 is no longer with us :( It got totalled in a very bad accident about 4 years ago. The car got smacked in the right front wheel by a Nissan 4x4 pickup with a winch mounted on the front bumper. The truck was going about 50 mph. Both vehicles totalled. The 442 was destroyed - the only straight panel left was the driver's door. Even the roof was bent. I thought I had a couple pics of the car after the wreck but I can't find them on the computer... I'll see if I can dig them up. Other than a little nerve damage in my brother's right leg and some nasty seat belt bruises he was OK. The emergency personnel and the tow truck driver all told him he was lucky he had a big car and that he walked away. If he was driving some econo-box, it would have been a different story.

Bert - Yes you have the steering wheel off of this car. See the other post for the story of what happened to that 442.

My brother also had a red with white stripes `77 442. It had a black interior (bucket seats) and was a 350 car. A very nice original car. He bought it from the original owner. The car was sold new in South Dakota (I think). The original owner was a really nice lady. She cried when she sold her car to my brother because she liked her 442 so much. I guess she didn't have any place to store it so she had to let it go. My brother kept the car for a few years and then ended up selling it awhile back on ebay. If I remember right it went to MI. The buyer did a quick restoration on it then resold it I believe. For some reason I have in my mind it went to IL, maybe the Chicago area (or it still could be in MI.) If anyone in that part of the country knows of a `77 442 in that color combo., it very well may be my brother's old car! I think my brother kind of regrets selling it.

Don't part it out! These 76-77 models are hard to find, and parts even harder! To many were lost for derby's.
I let one slide by this summer, a 455 car or it was suppose to be, never looked hard at it. As I have a 76 442, 350 car...

After eight months of fighting the DMV I finally got the 442 titled yesterday. To say this has been a hassle is an understatement. The best part is I am now the titled owner and it has been placed in the shop to begin working on. Good things come to those willing to run their a** off for "more documentation"

Hey all, dont get on very often anymore, to darn busy. Economy has put a damper on much progress the last couple of years. I do have an update on the 442 from this thread. First off it has been in a dry garage since a couple of weeks after getting it home so no further element damages. With the help of a friends 12 year old son we have swapped all fluids, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, hoses and thermostat. This weekend we put the juice to her and after 14 years she popped off almost immediatly. I must say as happy as I was to hear it run the excitement on the face of my "pseudo-son" was awsome, that kid was over the top excited. (had him in the driver seat turning the key) Fun to have him along for the work as he loves it and dont have the opportunity to do this type of thing at home. The good news is no clanging, knocking, scraping or other bad noises. Bad news is as soon as the water began to flow it started pouring the expensive antifreeze all over the shop floor. Come to learn the rear freeze plug on the drivers side is non existant, can also feel the scale and crap inside so turned it off and now on to next step. Now that I know it may be possible it is not toast we are pulling the front clip to have better engine access and will begin to give it a go around, water pump, flush the junk out, clean clean clean and see what we come up with. Will start to pick apart the 77 I drug back from NM and doing the swap dance, core support, fender, etc. At least at this point most of the work is just that, and not much money to shell out. One last note, when I put the battery in and touched the positive cable all the lights came on, pseudo-son had to snap a pic with his cell phone because it had just come to life. Cool kid.
