OK guys, horror stories. Give em to me. What is the worst thing that has happened to your car? About 10 years ago I was caught in a nasty storm (called a microburst)at my camp in the Adirondack mountains in NY and had half of a hemlock tree break off and land across the top of my 77. I measured the tree where it broke off and it was 18" in diameter. I must admit, it could have been much worse. Millions of dollars in damages were done during this particular storm. One family about seven camps down from us had huge white pine trees (35-50" diameter) completely crushing each of the five vehicles they had. I have a few dents in my fender, hood, and trunk. It also shredded the vinyl top. There were friends of ours there that had a Ch*vy Beretta that parked in our driveway. Blew out both front and rear windows and crushed the top. Ended up totalling the car. Glad that wasn't me!

Wow, that's a bummer. At least nobody was in the cars when it happened, I hope. I've been lucky to this point with the cars [knock on wood]. My poor old truck [90 Chevy SS] is a different story, it's been hit twice now, both times a young woman turned left in front of me  . I had the frame straightened and stripped it to the shell, and there it sits, another unfinished project :o .

 Used the car in the summers of 96 97 98.. put an intake on summer of 99.. registered the car on a saturday around 11 AM.. went for a ride.. gas pedal felt funny.. stupid cruise linkage was binding a bit.. came back home, bent the rod.. still binding.. came back home.. bent again.. rod hung up this time..

panicked with the key, turned it straight to lock (as we know header installs force the removal of that column lockout rod), hit a tree at 30MPH.. parked car for 8 years, dealt with other projects.

My `74 Supreme was part of a four car chain reaction accident in August of 1998. I was stopped about halfway down a hill. Traffic was backed up from the traffic light at the bottom of the hill. A 14 passenger day camp van full of young kids came over the hill. The driver couldn't stop in time and she plowed into the 1998 Isuzu Rodeo that was behind me. The Rodeo hit me then pushed me into the car in front of me. Long story short, the Isuzu Rodeo was totalled. I drove my Cutlass home. Gotta love over 4,000 lbs. of Lansing, MI steel! :D The damage on the car was a bent LH exhaust pipe, a mangled rear bumper, broken taillight lens and housing, small dent in the trunk lid, some left rear quarter panel damage, and the frame got bent just a little. I bent the front seatback rearward about three inches. I got slammed so hard the J hook that holds the spare tire straightened out and the spare went flying around inside the trunk. No damage to the front of the car. The front bumper that looks like a chromed railroad tie and the 5 mph energy absorbers, and the hinged grilles all worked as designed. I fixed the car and it looks great again. I didn't know I hit the car in front of me. The guy got out and was looking at the back of his car (I can't remember what it was, some Japanese compact sports car with a plastic bumper cover which was torn up in a few places). Anyway, I asked him, "Did I hit you?" He said, "Yeah, you hit me pretty good. My cd came flying out of my stereo!" I guess I did hit him pretty good.
