Hey guys maybe you can help me out. My 77 442 is painted White with Red stripes with Red interior. I was looking at the cowl tag and the seats are just buckets, that are firethorn red, but the paint says 13U and 13L which by my book is all silver. Does the other 77 442s tell what the body color and the stripe color is?
Was that a combo of Silver and Red Stripe? It looks as if the car was painted White with Red Stripes.
Any help would be great. Everything else on the tag looks to be correct. The car was built in Feb 77 on the 4th week.

As far as I know the cowl tag doesn't specify the lower color. Sounds like it was originally silver with red stripes. The stripes usually complimented the interior color.

My cowl tag says "SPECIAL PNT" in that part of the cowl tag. I found the build sheet and special car order form under the carpet when I replaced it. It isn't very readable, but the build sheet has 75U 75L and is called "Omega red." It has nothing showing the color of the stripes, but as Todd says, they complement the interior, which is white. Whether you keep it white or repaint it silver, it'll look great either way.

Thanks guys that helps me out. Where do you think the build sheet might be. On my 71 Cutlass it was on top of the gas tank.
If it is under the back seat it might still be there, if it is under the carpet or the bucket seat it might be gone. The inside is all taken apart and the bucket seats are just placed in side, there is no carpet left. The floor was runsted and they took tin and placed it in and riveted it down. The inside is a mess.

On my 73 it was under the carpet and sound deadener on the passenger side. Between the rust from the floor pan and the sound deadener being like roofing tar, oh and lets not forget being right over the exhaust, I am lucky I could read anything. The 77 was underneath the back seat tucked in the springs. Much better shape. I have heard them being found in the headliner, under seats, in the doors, and of course not at all. They may have never even made it in the car. The workers on the assembly line probably didn't have us in mind all these years later, wishing we could find the build sheet. I hope you find it. Good luck, keep us posted.

I havn't found a build sheet in any of my cars, but I got a complete black bucket seat interior from a '77 Cutlass Supreme [5spd car] and the build sheet was under the pass. seat, I still have it. It appears when they painted the stripes on the 76-77 442's at the factory the cars were already painted body color and they used fine line tape around the perimeter of the body lines and wheel well arches. Followed that line a 1/4" below with [1/4"] fine line, put 442 stencils on the doors and sprayed the lower color. At least that's how I've done it in the past. The deck lid # was a decal.
