I would like any assistance in obtaining a fairly decent price for a sport steering wheel.
I would also like to get at some time a dual gate set up with that digital tach I have seen.
I am not in a hurry for these items, and any assistance with me getting them some time will be appreciated... The interior of the new car I have is camel brownish, but will not hesitate to grab what i can...
Thanks guys,

I paid about $300 including shipping for my dual gate with the console included and a nice unbroken top plate. It was red and butchered where the previous owner had hacked on it to attempt to make the dual gate fit. I was able to cut it with a dremel to get a nice fit and then used SEM saddle tan to dye to the proper color. Then I had to use some nuts as spacers under the shifter to get it mounted to the floor and at the proper height to the top of the console. It was quite abit of trial and error and not just a slap it in bolt it up operation. Console in and out a half a dozen times, at least, I had to get the proper shift cable too, another $50 or so.
I have so much in it that I don't slam it around too much when shifting. I think that is why most top plates have the 123 bar broken off. I may go back to my original shifter set up, I think I actually like it more and don't have to worry about breaking it. Good thing I still have the original console because once you modify one for the dual gate it will no longer fit the stock shifter.
My Hurst digital tach looks cool  and it looks cool too. Of course how it works is probably like most you see but it does look cool. You probably noticed there never seems to be a picture with one lit up and working. Does anyone have one of these tachs that works? Mine is all I have left(and the owner's manual packet with the Hurst insert) from a 74 Hurst Olds pace car replica that I bought when I was 17 and crashed into a tree. I saw one sell on Ebay last year for $505 and guess what? It didn't even work but it looked pretty cool.
I am going to take mine to a local electronic shop that I know and see if they will want to touch it or if I will even want to pay the bucks they will want to work on it.
I got my sport wheel for free. Guy took a Olds Starfire to the wrecking yard and didn't have the title so they wouldn't take it and he dumped it on the side of the road out side the yard. He was so pissed he said we could have what ever we wanted off it and just peeled out and left. Right place, right time.I got the wheel and my buddy got the dash pad for his sons Monza and the rear hatch too. All free. If you don't care if it is used, sticky and has worn off grain you can get one for $100. Seems I always see them at the local swaps for $100 with no collar or horn button, sticky and smooth.
These are cool options to get for your car but they will cost you dearly. I could see spending $1000 for all 3, easy, these days and the tach probably won't work but will look cool:cool: not doing it.
Not trying to discourage you, this is just the reality of the bucks you will have to shell out.

I got lucky. My steering wheel came with the car as it was ordered from the factory. The Dual gate shifter was a dealer installation according to the original owner. The Digital tach (mine works) was an NOS piece I found about 15 years ago. It cost me $150 at the time but again, it was NOS!
My estimate for the three? $300 for the wheel, about 5-$600 for the Dual Gate and if you can find one (as most Hurst/Olds' didn't have one) $500 - $700

Yeah that tach looks like it was stored outdoors for awhile. Almost all the silver silk screen is wiped off and I know the original paint was prone to lifting but that is the worst I've seen. The wiring going in the back is altered and suspect too. That was the main reason I wouldn't have bid on it, that and 4447robert must have alot more money than me. He has bought the last couple of H/O tachs I've seen for sale, all the H/O mud flaps too. You're not the only one who thinks he pays too much. My non working tach must be worth close to $500 at least.

Hey guys, just wanna share some little known facts with ya.
4447robert - He`s a good guy. Own`s his own construction company. He bought out pretty much my entire collection of 73 H/O cars and parts.
Dualgates - use a specific mounting bracket for 73-75 and will fit 76-77. If you buy the correct bracket, you will not have to fiddle around with removing and replacing the console and adding washers or spacers.
Dualgates in H/O`s. The ONLY year that did not have a d/g standard was 74. And thats in small block cars ONLY. It came standard in all 74 W-30 cars and was an option in the 74 small block cars. It came standard in ALL 73`s and ALL 75`s regardless of engine.
Dualgate consoles. - They ALL look hacked because thats the way they were modified. There are NO d/g specific consoles. You have to take into consideration the amount of cars that Hurst modified for the d/g. They had to work fast. It was`nt always pretty. Ever seen the bottem of an ORIGINAL 69 H/O hood, under the scoop or under a 74-75 H/O vynil top ? It is`nt pretty.
Dualgate shifters. - They are EXACTLY the same for 70-75. As well as SOME of the aftermarket universal ones with the small console.
Dualgate shifter cables - Are longer and d/g specific. You can adapt an aftermarket Hurst or B&M cable. Sorry, don`t remember the part number.
Digital tachs. - ALL those were made by Harmon. Not Hurst. They sold them outright themselves as Harmon TACH II. I`ve had two different complete, NOS in the box. :) Alot of them you see on ebay don`t have the H/O logo. Now you know why. By todays standards, they are junk but can be updated.
Sport wheels - ALL A ( 70-77 ) and B ( 77 ) bodies and 73-77 Omegas, used the fullsize, black ONLY with NO stitching. If you have a sport wheel in any other color and it has stitching, it`s from a Starfire. And they made those in black also. The hubs and horn pieces are interchangable.
Hope some of this helps. I am not a self proclaimed expert, just 25 years of experiance talkin. DISSCLAIMER :) - Nothing is ever written in stone.

Wow, thanks that's a multitude of info...
I still am looking for the sports wheel and now know what to look for, and also wouldn;t mind the dual gate as it's a feature that I think wuld be fun to have and play around with... I also seen the post regarding the standard shift console, but think it may be difficult for me to swap from auto as I well don;t know what all is entailed to do this...
But again thanks for all that great info...

Good info Dennis, I knew most of it, probably from talking to you [and a couple others] over the years. Can you enlighten me on seatbelts for swivel buckets? My '76 I'm redoing had swivels from the factory but were swapped out with stratos at one point. I've got a set of swivels to put back in it, but not sure on the belts. Any info, leads appreciated.

Good info, in my case I was excited and wanted the shifter in the car so I went with ingenuity and didn't want to wait for the shifter bracket. I would certainly buy one if some one had one available or knows where I can get one. My console that came with the shifter wasn't the original, just one the previous owner hacked on with out success. The dremel made it all good.
Also good to see you explain why my W-25 74 H/O had a stock shifter, I've always wondered about that. Finally, I've thought about using the guts from a modern digital tach and adapting it to fit the H/O tach housing. Do you know who updates them? Thanks.

Dennis - my sport wheel was ordered with the car. It is black but I can see stitching. It subtle but it's there. As you said, nothing is written in stone (I say that myself). This post was an FYI.

The earlier sport wheels did have small stitching and a slight texture to them. The newer sport wheels have more and exagerated stitching on them.

Here is my wheel, ordered with the car in the Spring of 76. Would this be considered early or late?

Your wheel is correct. There is no early or late steering wheel. You have a full size used from 70-77. The smaller, Starfire wheel has a more pronounced stitching. And usually comes in colors as well as black. NO a-body used a small or colored steering wheel. PERIODLY. You always see them missadvertised on ebay and such.

Ken, like Dennis said, your wheel is correct. The starfire stiching continued around the grip at each spoke.
