I was digging through a few boxes of spare parts I have for the Corvette and 442 and discovered my "President's Message" from Fall 2001 (when I was head honcho of the Northern Lights Oldsmobile Club.
I gave it a read and it brought back lots of memories for September 11. I remember calling the airport after hearing on the radio that US air space was closed and there were thousands of Americans that were stranded. They asked if people would be willing to adopt an American or a family and take them into their homes until they could fly back to the USA. I called and was told that everyone was taken care of.
I remember hearing about an American woman buying some soap, toothpaste, and other items and where the man behind her in line picked up her money when she placed it on the counter, handed it back to her and said, "Sorry ma'am, you're money's no good here, I'll pay for that."
Being that it's your Memorial Day I thought that I'd post what I printed in our club newsletter (Olds Faithful) on that fall day in 2001. We celebrate our "Memorial Day on Nov 11 (Remembrance Day). I guess it's a day to remember the victims of 911 too. Hope you find time to enjoy your day.
