Well, I just stumbled on to this site, and boy, am I ever excited!!!!!:)

I have a 75 Olds Cutlass S with a 350 - it is all original (except for the paint), and it looks and runs great. However, for the last 2 years, I have been trying to find the rear side window trim pieces (they are fairly large triangle shaped windows). The originals were thrown out when the body was repainted, and I have never found any other trim. Anyone know where I could find some? Or is there a way that I can make some - I am that desperate!

Welcome to the site. there's another thread on the smaller opera trim in the parts wanted section. Go with the stainless trim found on the earlier years. You see them on ebay alot, but they're not cheap. They usually sell between 2-300 bucks. Sometimes you can get lucky and find them in the junkyard, but the bigger 'S' style are harder to come by. I did see a 76 442 at the Olds Homecoming in Lansing last year with that aftermarket door edge chrome on the quarter glass, didn't look terrible, but I think I'd just go without it instead of that stuff.

I am also currently seeking the trim pieces for the opera windows for a 74 Cutlass I just picked up... It does look like they are obtainable, but for a price, and I'm going to hold out for the metal ones from a 73...

Oh, and sorry, new to the site as well, hello...

I am also looking for any info regarding a dual gate hurst shifter, or what yr of shifter that may work for my 74 that I can grab from say Ebay...

Any year dual gate will work, you'll need the 73-75 bracket though.

Do you have the stainless or the plastic ones? I didn't use anything on mine [stainless] but if you have to i'd use something that dosn't get hard, I think they used butyl from the factory. On the Supreme with the landua top, the vinyl really locked them on, definatly no adhesive needed there.

BTW Chris, I like your new avatar, how did you do that?

i have the plastic ones.... right now, there's really nothing keeping them on there. I can see where the dabs of whatever the factory used are but it must of worn away. I replaced my left side a few years ago and can't remember what i used or anything at all.

oh -- the avatar... I've been playing around with making logos and designs and got the idea for this one at the Indy 500. I made it with Adobe Illustrator which is a similar program to Photoshop (I just blew your mind, didn't I?) haha. I actually drew over (i meant to thank you) the dead-on pic of the front of your H/O on cardomain.

I'd use 3M strip caulk, it comes in a blue box.

how much of it? just a few dabs?

Well the 3M strip caulk is about the closest to the factory butyl tape, its strips of sticky caulk. Just roll it out as thin as needed and fit it in the channel of the trim and press the trim on. The stuff won't get hard and you'll be able to get the trim back off if needed. Or you could dab a little black RTV where needed if you wanted to do it that way.

3M Strip-Caulk, Black Part#8578
This is what you need for mounting the stainless steel quarter window trim on your car the way the factory mounted it. This is used for a hundred other things on the Cutlass and most every other car. You can't do a proper restoration without it. You can get it at the automotive paint supply. Comes in a box with 60 pieces 1 foot each.
