The fun continues!
starter Motor drive crapped, so I had to drop the starter. I also found frayed & bad wiring, so I have to replace some of the wires. the lead from the "S" terminal was almost broken through, so that has to be fixed, and I found a dangling wire from the "R" terminal. What is that? Is it needed?
Is there an easy wiring diagram posted I can check today before i fix the wires and put the new starter in?
Thanks!
(Man, this car is driving me nuts!!!!)

You need to fix that wire/lead going to the 'S' terminal, that's the power wire from ignition circuit. The wire on the 'R' terminal you should be able to delete, since you converted over to HEI. I believe that was the resistor wire to the points distributor. Take a good look at the fusible links off the main starter lug also.

That was my thinking, thanks fopr confirming.
I have also gotten some hi-temp wire covering, since the exhaust heat shield and pipes are all jammed together there. I have never like the GM starters because of the layout. Here I'll take the FORD method, separate solenoid.
I'll repair the wire, delete the "R" wire, and put it back together tomorrow.
Then I am putting the car away before anything else can break!
Thanks for your help,
Dan

No problem. When a car sits for a long period a lot of little problems will pop up. Best thing to do is keep driving it and work out all the bugs. Once you have them all straightened out, you'll find it to be a very reliable vehicle. One good thing about these cars, they're easy to work on. After working on new junk everyday, I actually enjoy working on the Cutlass's.

Wiring repaired, and put in a high-temp covering, everything cleaned, it started right up!
Did a few test starts, the put my bicycle in the trunk, and put it back into it's garage!
Sleeping peacefully!
DRIVE IT! Drive it HARD! Its natural place is on the road in motion. If you leave it sit, thing will not be right in the universe. Give it love, the more you drive them the better they behave. And at least once a week from a dead stop, mash the pedal to the floor and hold it there until things work them selves out. You and the car will feel better about it.:)
