Here's a link to the first Superman comic book. Note the paper Clark works for is the Daily Star. Joe Shuster, who created Superman, was from Toronto and worked as a paperboy delivering the Toronto Daily Star, the paper his father read every night.

As the character gained popularity, the name of Clarks paper was changed to Daily Planet, just in case the Daily Star picked up the comic and printed it in the "funnies" section there would be no confusion or infringment.
