Re: [73-77olds] "Real" 76-77 Hurst Olds...?
In 1976 There was a black Hurst/Olds prototype with a wrap around rear window
and a white Cutlass used for visuals only, at the time the cars were being
considered for production, Dick Chrysler quit Hurst Corp. that and the high
sales rate of the Cutlasses at the time lead to the cancellation of the 76
H/O. In 77 there was one black prototype and the same white 76 with different
stripes on it again for a visual, This was the only year Dick Chrysler was
not involved in the creating of the Hurst/Olds, Most people dont know Doc
Watson was not working for Hurst at this time. Dave Grob designed the 77 H/O,
anyway, due to high sales the order for the 2000, 77 H/Os was canceled, Yes I
do own the 77 Prototype.
There were a few companies installing T-Tops at this time, including Hurst
and "Cars and Concepts", which was the company Dick Chrysler started to
compete with Hurst.
As for the cars that had t-tops added by Hurst Corp. with H/O emblems on
them, this is were it gets tricky. Im and not finished investigation this as
of now, the people I talked to said Hurst did not install the emblems,
possibly the dealer did. I doubt this is true, I have seen the way they are
installed and think it would be more likely the guys at Hurst had boxes of
these emblems laying around and while installing the t-tops, installed a
couple emblems also.................
Keep reading the OCC newsletters for future updates and if your not a member,
you just missed the story on the 77 Prototype and the story of what went into
the making of the 73-76 Hurst/Olds............."this has been an
advertisement for the OCC"
P.S. I found the guy who made the hood ornaments too!!!
Hey I work hard on this stuff!!!
Have a great weekend, im going on vacation!!!!!!!
