I need to replace both window regulators. The passenger side is fine but the spline is stripped. The driver side is bad, window rattling when closing the door, having to pull the window back and forth to roll it up all the way.
Any tips? It looks like a pain in the @ss to replace.

I think going to have to do the same thing but just to the drivers side when I try to crank my window down the crank is starting to wobble bad and I couldn't get it to go down so I'll be interested in the comments on this too.

It's hard to explain this kind of stuff over the computer. It's not hard to do, just easier done than said, I'll give it a shot. First [of course] you need to remove the door panels [upper/lower]. The glass has to come out, no biggie. Remove the glass guides [bolted to door w/whiskers] and the glass stop, at the bottom with a rubber pad the glass bottoms out on. You'll be able to lower the glass down far enough to remove the little phillips head screws that hold the outer sealing strip on when you remove the stop. Once the outer sealing strip is off you can unbolt the glass from the regulator and pull it out through the top. Set the glass aside in a safe spot, have an old blanket or something to set it on. Now it's just a matter of unbolting the regulator and taking it out through the large opening in the door. Before unbolting anything, put a witness mark on the fastener locations [guides etc.] for reassembly if your unsure. I've probably done this dozens of times and I'm sure I'm missing something, but like I said, it's hard to explain on the computer.
Oh, and if the windows rattling, take a good look at all the hardware, guides etc. for wear. Also check the door itself for fatigue cracks, it's a common problem.

Sometimes the regulator has to be "indexed",meaning rolled to the right spot to fit through the hole in the door.Usually I'll roll it down to midpoint or so. Besides that I think Todd covered all of the bases. I have a '75 body service manual I could post the door glass pages if it would help.
I had my driver window rattling around like that, had to hold the glass to roll up the window. It was just the lower rear roller that attaches to the glass and rides in the track. It was destroyed, probably from years of closing the door by grabbing the top of the glass. So you might want to check that.

thanks for all the feedback.
I still haven't had a chance to do it yet. But will keep updating when I do.
