My 73 stil has its original laquer paint. its in good condition, but i want it to shine until i can paint it. Does anyone know a buffing compound or polish for laquer to get the shine back?

Your local automotive paint supply can recommend something. Colorback used to work well for that but it was reformulated for clear coats and now it's not so good. If you can still find it in a can, that's the old formula. Bottle, no good. Meguires paint cleaner wax works okay. Then there is Dupont polishing and rubbing compounds depending on how bad your paint is. 3M makes polishing and swirl removing compounds and polishes that work well with a buffer but go slow and don't burn the paint. Because your paint is so old I'd polish and buff it by hand the first time. Then wax it once you're happy with how well it has cleaned up. Depending on color you may have to go over the car 3 or 4 times or more. I have had good results bringing back old paint. Good luck.
