Hi all. My name is Todd, 43 from Pontiac, MI. Currently have a 77-442, 76 Cutlass Supeme and a 76 H/O. This looks like the latest and greatest site for the 73-77's, so I hope people will register and start posting.

Keith, my cars are on my cardomain page which you can get to from my signature, the 76 is on page 2. I'll get some pics in the garage also. I have a bunch that I hav'nt put on the computer yet. The 76 is a 442 that has t-tops and vinyl roof treatment [blocked quarter windows] that was done at Hurst Performance. I'm in the process of a complete resto and It will be a replica of the 1 Hurst Olds prototype that was made in 1976. 455 w/ka heads, 400 turbo, and the original 10 bolt posi w/3.42 gears. Original swivel bucket car and a Hurst dual gate shifter. Progress has been slow, but It should be cool when I get it done.

Todd,
I don't get your '76. It's a 442 but with Hurst/Olds emblems on the side? Did it come like that?

ragz442

It came from the factory with the w29 442 appearance and handling package. From what I was told by the previous owner, and by the paper work he gave me with the car, it had the t-tops and roof treatment done at Hurst Performance. It's not a "true" H/O, It wasn't an option in '76, but there was 1 prototype made. I'm restoring it to be a "tribute" to the 1 1976 H/O that was produced. It'll be white w/gold stripes. You can see the original on the HO club of America web site under prototypes.

Hey Guys,

Todd, you have some sweat looking cars. It's been a while since I have talked with other 73-77 owners. My name is Brad Bishop, I'm 35, I live in Dallas, TX and I am the Editor of Journey With Olds magazine. Looking forward to hanging out on the site and talking with some of the Forgotten Years owners. I posted a pic of my car in the VBGarage.

Thanks for the comps Keith and Brad, back at ya, both your cars are very sharp. The '76 442 is completly stripped right now and I'm still not 100% positive on how I'm going to go. It looks so close to the H/O prototype I thought I'd go that route, but I was also thinking black and gold. I'm not real partial to the tan, but it is different. Brad, I've admired your car for many years, it's one of the sharpest 76-77's around for sure. Our 76 Cutlass Supreme was in the same issue of Collectable Auto Magazine that yours was in, it's the one in the back of the mag with the price guide. Your car has had alot of ink, that spread in Hemmings Muscle Machines was real cool. Hope people start posting on here, it looks like the start of something good.......pass the word.

Thanks Todd, I am glad I was able to get my car in those publications in the hopes of opening the eyes of the car world to our years of cars. On your tan '76 442, that's a tough one. If it is a 350, maybe the H/O theme is the way to go. If I remember correctly, the '76 H/O prototype was a 350 car. If it is a 455, I vote keep it original, only 156 455 442's were built in '76 (if I remember correctly). This past year in Dallas at the OCA Nationals, there was a super nice '76 442. I still love to see them in their original form. In any case, I'm sure it will be a cool car. Please let us know if you need any help with it.

Brad, it's a 350 car. I have a set of ka heads and can get a 455 for cheap, so I thought it would be cool since '76 was the last year for the big block. I got some info on the H/O prototype from Jeff over on the Hurst Olds site, but did not know it was a 350 car. If you can get me any more info it would be appreciated. The reason I wanted to clone the prototype is my car looks so close to it. I'm not sure on the interior of H/O, my car is buckskin, should match ok with the white and gold stripes. It had swivel seats originally going off the cowl tag and the paper work I got from the Olds Historical Service from previous owner. Someone installed strato buckets at one point and that's what it had when I got it, but I have a nice set of swivels I'm going to have recovered for it. Thanks for the heads up and lmk if you have any more info.

Bert, glad to see you made it over, your rides look real sharp.

Welcome RocketMan, I hav'nt had a problem posting pics in the forum but don't have any file pics to post in the garage, but I'm still not very computer savvy. Jim [77-442] your car looks real sharp, definatly a rare color combo. You guys need to post in the Intro column so people can respond to you. You could also add more pics, info etc.

Todd,

Thanks for the compliment. I had GM of Canada do a research packet on this particular car (copy of orig invoice, etc) and they said that it is probably the only one ordered with this color combo with the white painted top. On the invoice it reads; D99 Special two-tone paint. I saw one other 77 in Mandarin Orange with an orange and white interior (Orange top) and it was on www.442.com last year. My car still has it's original paint and interior, and according to the two previous owners it was never driven in the rain and always in proper storage.

WOW, that is rare. Do you have any more pics? What part of Canada are you in? Sweet car!

Todd,

I do have more pictures, I need to figure out how to upload them in the correct size. I am in Seattle. If anyone has a '77 & up Oldsmobile, GM of Canada will send a package that includes original invoice as well as other factory information on your car. The cost is about $50. The car does not have to be a Canadian built car to get this info. It is not available on anything older than '77, for some reasons Oldsmobile purged their records for previous years. If you get on the GM of Canada website, they have a restoration section with the necessary info regarding this.

Todd the way you started your intro, I was thinking I was in a 12 step program for drinking. Ha Ha Wait maybe we all have an addiction for 73-77's.

Ok here I go

Hello, my name is Dave an I have a 77 S. I got the car out of Az a few years ago and have been working on it ever since. It is a very clean car and if I was not swaping out hood and putting a rear spoiler on it. I would not be getting ready to have it painted. I will try to post some photos of when I got it, some current ones and hen some new after paint.

There I feel better thanks guys

Good info Jim. I did get a phamplet with my '76 from the previous owner from the Olds Historical Service [?] out of Lansing, Mi. I heard they no longer provide it though. I'm not great with computers but if you get a Cardomain site or another host site you can post your pics from there.

Dave, God grant me the serenity.........lol
Glad to see you made it to this site, you need to get some pics on here.

I'm new!! just came across this board (thanks to Brad)... and I love it!!! Finally, a place to call home!!

As for myself, I've owned a '77 Cutlass S 442 for a decade now. She was my first car... and she'll be my last. Don't let my pics confuse you, she really is a '77.... I totaled the front end while in high school and all I could find were '76 grill inserts.... darn it. Anyway, just wanted to say hello... look forward to contributing...

sledhead2 -- so what kind of hood are you putting on the car? and spoiler? i often debate getting VFN's ram-air hood. I know that's going to make most of the guys around here cringe..... BUT, just relax, I haven't done it yet!!! But I do debate it...

ragz442

Welcome to the site PSU442! I checked your car out before on Cardomain, real nice. Yea sled got a ram air hood from VFN, the spoiler is off a '76 Buick Free Spirit, I'm sure he'll chime in with details. I just picked up another one of the spoilers, probably put it on the Cutlass Supreme for now.

04-03-2007, 09:08 PM
My hood is a VFN and Spoiler is like Brads, Todd's, and several others

I have photos who can post them? I see what brad is talking about the lines and the hood.

I was just talking to Brad about the spoiler he has..... now I want one. Ha. Where'd you find yours? I can't wait to see pics of sledhead's finished ride... it's everything I've ever dreamt about!

PSU i found mine thru midsized a few years ago. There was a guy 77regal that was trying to sell one. I will see if i can track him down.

I found both of mine on ebay. I typed in 'buick spoiler'. I just got one yesterday, the 1st one a couple years ago. In three years of looking [periodically] I've only seen 3 on there. I never really noticed about the body lines not matching on the r/a hood, but I've never seen one in person either, They still look badass IMO.

Looking good, Dave. Hard to tell from the pics, but the scoops seem to line up with the grills ok, or am I wrong?

It looks good with those grills too, the 'S' grills look more "stealth" [Masculine] and less "fancy" [feminine] than the Supreme's.
