Guys,
I put in my other engine (455, with Edelbrock performer intake) out of my
Cutlass
in, but it's not running yet. But I noticed that I had
the middle line blocked on the Fuel Pump. There are 3 fittings on the FP, left
one
goes to the tank, middle one - vent?, right one to the carb. I can't remember
why I had it disconnected on my cutlass.
Also, do I block off the carcoal canister to carb line now that I have this
other engine in?
I can't beleive how many vaccum lines there are on the stock engine.
That's all for now. I'm sure i'll have more questions later.

Hey Keith,
My old fuel pump also had three lines. the extra one was just blocked off, not
sure where it went, maybe return line to bleed off extra pressure?
Also I would hook up the vapor canister the fuel tank is supposed to have the
the vapors and pressure pulled from it, otherwise the car always smells like
gas. The only vac. lines really needed are for the trans(full engine vac),
distributer(timed vac) if used, power brakes, and the small vapor line.
What carb are you using on the 455? I have the Edelbrock performer package on
my 455, it works well, manifold, cam, and 750 cfm carb. I also went with the
Holley mech. fuel pump and really like it much better than the stock pump.

Re: fuel line, ect.
I have a holley 800cfm mech double pumper. 3000 stall converter.
What should I set the timing to? It's a 75 motor but i dont' have any of the
emmisions stuff on it.
Also, it appears that the A/C doesn't work now. The clutch engages but the
air doesn't get cold. It could be low but I don't see where it leaked out..
the a/c worked fine before the motor swap..
Any ideas?

Re: fuel line, ect.
I'm running somewhere between 12 - 16 degrees advance
with points. I don't remember what dwell I've got set
but you're probably running an HEI anyhow.
If you have points read this paragragh, otherwise skip
to the next.
For the points folks out there in radio land, if I
recall I usually set dwell a bit under 28 degrees. If
I remember correctly a lower dwell means the points
are closed for a shorter amount of time. It means the
coil won't charge as much for WOT, but since I don't
beat on the car, it has more get up and go on the
lower end, plus saves the points. Hopefully I've
remebered that correctly. Once I get them set, they
stay that way for long time so I forget in between.
What I do with a new motor, or one that I've changed
carbs, dists, emissions is put a vacuum guage on and
turn the distributor to the highest vacuum and then
back down 2 pounds on the guage. That generally puts
me in the 12 - 16 range, usually closer to 16. The
engines always feel positive throughout the power band
when I set them this way.
Sounds like you set on the fuel lines. I would suggest
having that return line hooked up to the tank. I don't
have my canister hooked up to the carb. I don't have
any gas smells though either.
Now would be a good time to check the rubber lines
coming out of the tank. If you can't remeber the last
time you changed them, or never did I would strongly
suggest changing them. THey're usually in worse shape
than you think and responsible more often than not for
the unexplained fuel smells.
Well hopefully I'll see you down there at the car
show. It's a long ride, and I've been having some
probs with my neck which will undoubtedly make the
ride longer.
